Until Your Scorecard Speaks at Home, Nobody Should Re-Elect You: A Word to Obi Aguocha – By Mandate 27 Group

There is an old saying among our people: what a man did not do on his way up, he will never do on his way down. It is a proverb about character, and it is the proverb every voter in the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency should carry into 2027.

Obi Aguocha has asked for the people’s trust before. He climbed on the strength of promises, handshakes and the goodwill of a constituency that wanted representation. Now he stands at the top of that ladder, and the question is simple: what did he leave on the rungs behind him? If the answer is thin, then the descent will be thinner still.

Let us begin where every honest assessment begins, at home.

**What does his own village say?** A Representative is first a son of somewhere. If the people who knew him as a boy, who share his kindred and his market, cannot point to a road, a school block, a water scheme, a clinic or an empowerment programme and say “this came from our son,” then no stranger in Ikwuano or Umuahia South should be asked to believe the story. Charity, they say, begins at home. So does accountability. Let his scorecard speak first in his own village.

**What does the wider Ohuhu clan say?** Ohuhu is not a small place and its people are not easily fooled. Let him stand in the clan and list what the clan has gained from his tenure. Let the elders, the youths and the market women testify. If the clan that should be proudest of him is quiet, that silence is the loudest verdict available. A man who cannot show his own people the dividends of his office has no business showing the rest of us a campaign poster.

**What of the constituency at large?** The roads that remain impassable, the schools that lack basics, the youths who finish school and find nothing, the traders who struggle in markets that need attention: these are not the complaints of opponents. They are the daily experience of ordinary people. A Representative’s work is legislation, oversight and delivery. Where are the bills he sponsored, the motions he moved and the projects he attracted? Plaques, photographs and diaspora trips are not a record.

The proverb matters because it exposes the false hope behind every request for a second chance. Politicians love to say, “Give me more time, and I will do what I could not do before.” But time was never the missing ingredient. He had the mandate, the platform and the funds that come with the office. A man who did not use the opportunity when his strength was fresh and his promises were new will not discover purpose when the pressure of re-election is on him. What he did not do going up, he will not do coming down.

Let us be clear about what we are asking. We are not asking anyone to hate a man. We are asking the people to treat the ballot as an employment contract and the tenure as a probation period. In any workplace, the employee who reports for review with excuses instead of results does not get his contract renewed. Why should the constituency be different?

To Obi Aguocha, the message is direct. Do not come to Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South asking for votes on the strength of applause, awards and promises. Come with a scorecard. Let it be read aloud in your village first. Let it be confirmed by your kinsmen in Ohuhu. Let it be tested by the people who live with the consequences of your tenure.

Until that scorecard speaks for you at home, no reasonable person in this constituency should think of returning you to the House. The ballot belongs to the people, and the people have the right to ask for evidence. We ask politely today. We will answer firmly in 2027.
