Int’l Day of the Girl Child: Former Abia Speaker, Chinedum Orji Calls For Protection Of Girls’ Rights
I join the rest of the world to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child, celebrated on the 11th of October and a day dedicated to recognizing the rights, potential, dreams, and aspirations of every girl child.
I firmly believe that every girl deserves access to quality education, adequate healthcare, equal opportunities, protection from all forms of abuse, and the freedom to pursue her dreams without discrimination.
Our girls are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are valuable contributors to the development of our society today. When we educate a girl, protect her rights, and create opportunities for her to thrive, we invest in the progress, prosperity, and stability of our families, communities, and nation.
This occasion also reminds us of our collective responsibility to confront the challenges that prevent girls from reaching their full potential, including child marriage, gender-based violence, discrimination, and limited access to education and economic opportunities.
As we celebrate this important day, I reaffirm my commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the welfare, education, dignity, and empowerment of every girl child. Together, we must build a society where every girl is valued, her voice is heard, her rights are protected, and her dreams are given the opportunity to become reality.
Let us give every girl a reason to dream, the opportunity to grow, and the freedom to achieve greatness.
Happy International Day of the Girl Child.
Rt Hon Chinedum E. Orji, FNSE, FNICE, FNITHE
Former, Speaker Abia State House of Assembly.
