Crisis In Labour Party As Ikwuano/Umuahia Ward Chairmen Lament Alleged Neglect By Rep Member Obi Aguocha
Easterntruth News Network gathered that there is a growing discontent among Labour Party ward chairmen in Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency over the alleged neglect by their representative in the National Assembly, Hon. Obi Aguocha.
According to information gathered from party stakeholders in the constituency, Hon. Aguocha had in 2023 collected account details of all 32 ward chairmen of the party across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South with a promise to be paying them a monthly stipend of N50,000 to support party activities at the grassroots.
However, party sources allege that three years down the line, not a dime has been paid to any of the ward chairmen.
The ward chairmen are also lamenting alleged lack of empowerment and constituency projects. They claim that the lawmaker told them he was not ready to do empowerment for anyone, and since his assumption of office in 2023, nothing in that direction has been done for party faithful at the ward level.
Some party members in the constituency now question the capacity of the lawmaker to deliver meaningful projects to the people, asking: “Is it the Obi Aguocha that cannot pay N50,000 to Labour Party ward chairmen that you are expecting to deliver projects?”
Critics within the party describe the situation as disappointing, saying the constituency appears to be left behind while other federal constituencies are witnessing projects and empowerment programs from their representatives.
As 2027 approaches, stakeholders are calling on Hon. Obi Aguocha to reconcile with his grassroots structure and show more commitment to the welfare of party members and the development of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
