ORJI UZOR KALU SHOULD FACE HIS POLITICAL BATTLES ALONE AND LEAVE SENATOR MAO OHUABUNWA OUT OF HIS POLITICAL CALCULATIONS
Our attention has been drawn to a malicious, false and completely fabricated story allegedly being circulated by the OUK Media Team, claiming that Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa warned Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex against contesting the 2027 Abia North Senatorial election against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
We wish to state categorically and unequivocally that Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who is currently focused on his responsibilities as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, never made any such statement.
At no time did Senator Mao issue any warning, message or directive to Chief Bourdex—or to anyone else—asking him not to contest the Senate election.
This latest fabrication is nothing more than the handiwork of a desperate political camp searching for relevance and attempting to drag respected leaders into battles that do not concern them. It is not only laughable but also politically irresponsible and shameful.
It appears to have become a pattern for the OUK camp to manufacture stories, attach the respected name of Senator Mao Ohuabunwa to them, and circulate them in the public space in a desperate attempt to create confusion and mislead the people.
FOR THE RECORD:
1. Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa respects the democratic rights of every Abia Northerner. He would never discourage any qualified citizen from exercising his constitutional and democratic right to contest an election.
2. Senator Mao Ohuabunwa is a democrat who believes in the sovereignty of the people. The people—not political manipulation—should determine who represents them.
3. Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has no mandate to speak for Orji Uzor Kalu. If Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is uncomfortable with the emergence of credible challengers, he should confront his political challenges directly rather than dragging the name of Senator Mao into them.
The political reality in Abia North is becoming increasingly clear. The people are demanding accountability, effective representation and tangible results. After eight years in the Senate, the people have every right to assess Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s record and decide whether they want him to continue representing them.
Chief Bourdex, like every other qualified son or daughter of Abia North, has every right to contest for the Senate. Abia North is not anyone’s personal political estate.
Chief Bourdex has shown consistency in his pursuit and is prepared to give the OUK team a good fight for the race.
The people must be allowed to make their choice freely, without intimidation, manipulation or manufactured endorsements.
We therefore advise the OUK Media Team to concentrate on presenting the record, ideas and agenda of their principal instead of dragging Distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa into a political contest in which he has neither made the alleged statement nor authorised anyone to speak on his behalf.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu should face his political battles squarely and allow Senator Mao Ohuabunwa to remain focused on his responsibilities.
Abia North belongs to the people, and the people will decide.
