ASA ROADS IN TATTERDEMALION: ASA LIBERATION MOVEMENT CALLS FOR URGENT NDDC INTERVENTION
The leadership of the Asa Liberation Movement (ALM), under the capable stewardship of Hon Emeka Adiele, has raised serious concerns over the deplorable state of road infrastructure across Asa land, describing it as a major impediment to socio-economic growth and the well-being of residents.
This position was reached during the Asa Liberation Movement’s meeting held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Cluster Hall, Umunteke Asa, Ozaa Ukwu Ward, Ukwa West Local Government Area, Abia State.
The leadership of ALM lamented that the persistent neglect and abandonment of critical road networks such as Owaza – Okohia/Uzuaku -Imo River, Uzuaku – Obuzor-144 Battalion, Ezendioma – Umuorie – Umukalu, Umuadinewe – Owo – Ngwaiyiekwe junction, and last but not the least, Owaza – Obibor – Obuzor junction, have continued to expose residents to untold hardship, ranging from restricted access to markets and healthcare services, to increased transportation costs, insecurity and the stifling of local economic activities.
According to ALM, no community can meaningfully develop when its roads are left in a state of decay.
In this regard, the leadership of the Asa Liberation Movement called on the NDDC Representative, Dr. Eruba Dimgba, to urgently rise to the responsibilities of his office by rolling up his sleeves and addressing the failed portions of the aforementioned roads across Asa. ALM stressed that infrastructure development, particularly road rehabilitation, is not a privilege, but a fundamental duty owed to the people.
Beyond infrastructure, the meeting also featured a reaffirmation of the ALM’s unwavering commitment to supporting credible and people-oriented candidates for all elective offices in Ukwa and Abia State at large. The leadership emphasized that political support must be earned through performance, integrity and genuine concern for the people.
ALM further focused its deliberations on the anticipated report of the Asa Think Tank Committee, especially as it relates to the Federal House of Representatives seat for Ukwa East and West Constituency. The leadership urged the committee to remain steadfast in its assignment of producing a credible, marketable and development-driven candidate, while respecting and preserving the already established ADU House of Assembly zoning arrangement, which remains critical to political balance and equity in Asa.
The leadership of Asa Liberation Movement reiterated that good roads are the arteries of development and their abandonment is a direct assault on the dignity and progress of the people. ALM therefore, stated that, it will, henceforth, write to the NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku to school Dr Eruba Dimgba on the need to observe the provisions of the NDDC Act which provides the Oil Producing Local Governments like Ukwa West LGA the opportunity to receiving visible road projects and other meaningful Infrastructures from the commission.
As Abia State and Ukwa in particular continue to shape their political future, ALM insists that leadership must be measured by tangible impact, not promises.
The people of Asa deserve better and the time to act is now, ALM concluded.
