MAYOR OF AROCHUKWU CONGRATULATES IYOM ABAM ON THIS YEAR’S AUGUST MEETING, DESCRIBES WOMEN AS POWERFUL TOOLS FOR DEVELOPMENT.
The Mayor of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Prof. Okereke Eze Aru has congratulated the women of Abam Onyerubi Clan on the successful celebration of this year’s August Meeting, describing women as “powerful tools for development” whose contributions remain critical to the progress of every community.
Speaking during a goodwill visit to mark the annual gathering, the Mayor commended Iyom Abam the Association of Abam Onyerubi Women — and the women’s leadership for sustaining the tradition of the August Meeting. The meeting brings women together every August to deliberate on community development, unity, peacebuilding, and the welfare of families.
“The August Meeting is more than a cultural gathering. It is a development summit where our mothers and women leaders take practical decisions that transform homes, villages, and the entire LGA,” the Mayor said.
“I congratulate Iyom Abam and all women of Abam Onyerubi for using this platform to drive education, health, skills acquisition, and support for the vulnerable. You are indeed powerful tools for development.”
He noted that women play a central role in grassroots mobilization, conflict resolution, and sustaining cultural values.
The Mayor also praised the leadership of Iyom Abam for their consistency and dedication to the welfare of women and children in Abam Onyerubi. He urged the association to continue using the August Meeting to promote peace, support government policies, and mentor the younger generation.
In her response, the President of Iyom Abam appreciated the Mayor for identifying with the women and for recognizing their sacrifices. She assured that Iyom Abam will continue to support initiatives aimed at development, security, and the wellbeing of families in Arochukwu.
Highlights of the visit included prayers for the peace and progress of Arochukwu, presentation of gifts to nursing mothers, and discussions on upcoming community projects to be championed by Iyom Abam.
