Mayor of Arochukwu LGA, Prof. Okereke Eze Aru Welcomes PDP Chieftain Prince Eric Aso Kalu, Others Into Labour Party in Arochukwu

The Executive Mayor of Arochukwu LGA, Prof. Okereke Eze Aru on Sunday, 26th July 2026, received a former Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Prince Eric Aso Kalu, and other defectors into Labour party.
The welcome reception was organized by Ututu Labour Party Stakeholders at the compound of Chief Kelechi Kalu Nto in Ukwuakwu, Ututu, Arochukwu LGA.
Prince Eric Aso Kalu, founder of PEAK FOUNDATION, a philanthropist and a successful Business Mogul was the PDP candidate for Abia State House of Assembly, Arochukwu State Constituency during the 2019 general elections. He defected to the Labour Party alongside several of his supporters.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor Prof. Okereke Eze Aru described the defection as a boost to the Labour Party in Arochukwu. He said the growing number of people joining the party is a testimony to the good governance of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti and the performance of Labour Party leaders at the LGA level.
The LGA Party Chairman also welcomed the new members and assured them of equal rights and opportunities within the party. He urged them to work together with existing members to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
In his remarks, Prince Eric Aso Kalu said his decision to join the Labour Party was informed by the visible projects and people-oriented policies of the present administration in Abia State. He pledged his loyalty and that of his supporters to the growth of the party in Arochukwu and across the state.
The event ended with formal presentation of the Labour Party flag to the defectors amid celebration by party members and supporters from across Ututu and neighboring communities.
