2027: Ike Bishop Okoronkwo Unveils Campaign Organisation, Presents Legislative Agenda for Abia North

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Secretariat in Umuahia was filled to capacity on Monday, 26 October 2026, as Mr. Ike Bishop Okoronkwo (IBO) formally unveiled his Campaign Organisation, Campaign Council and Legislative Agenda ahead of the Abia North Senatorial contest.

The event, themed O ZULA Zukwanu Ike! Enough Is Enough — Let’s Take Back Abia North!” drew party leaders, stakeholders, youth and women groups, and supporters from across the five local government areas of Abia North.

In his address, Okoronkwo said the unveiling was not just about a campaign structure but a declaration for a new direction for the district. He said representation must be measured by lives improved and opportunities created, not by titles or years in office.

Okoronkwo stated that while he respects the office of the incumbent Senator, the people of Abia North deserve to ask legitimate questions about performance and demand better outcomes. He referenced the poverty challenges facing communities in the zone and cited the 2022 National Bureau of Statistics Multidimensional Poverty Index which estimated about 28.8% of Abia North’s population in multidimensional poverty, stressing the need for a new approach focused on measurable development.

He unveiled a four-point legislative agenda:

1. Education — Future Builders: Pursuit of scholarships, technical and vocational training, digital skills and apprenticeship opportunities, with advocacy for federal agencies and development partners to support students.

*2. Prosperity — Abia North Arise:* A framework for Agribusiness, Resilient Enterprises, Innovation and Sustainable Employment, to support entrepreneurs, artisans, traders and small businesses through grants, training, mentoring and market access. He announced his personal commitment to dedicate 80% of his eligible personal Senate earnings to the initiative, subject to applicable laws and a transparent framework, with a four-year target of supporting 5,000 people into enterprise and mobilising 10,000 job and livelihood opportunities.

*3. Agriculture and Women’s Inclusion:* Legislative and budgetary advocacy to improve farmers’ access to finance, inputs, storage and markets, with emphasis on women-led businesses. He disclosed ongoing conversations with potential development partners including Norfund, FMO, Proparco, DEG, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, TechnoServe, AGRA and the Gates Foundation, with an ambition to mobilise at least $5 million in eligible agricultural and enterprise investment, subject to due diligence and partner approval.

*4. Infrastructure — Abia North Connect and Power:* Advocacy for federal budgetary allocations for roads linking farms to markets, particularly in Ohafia, Abam, Isuikwuato and Acha, and for improved electricity access through grid extension, mini-grids and renewable solutions in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency and other relevant agencies.

Okoronkwo also used the occasion to unveil members of his campaign council, describing them as a team that would drive grassroots engagement across the district.

The council includes Ugochukwu Uwaeke as Director General, Major Kalu Agwu (rtd) as Deputy Director General, Barr. Reginald Nwaokocha as Director of Finance, Chief Orji Awa Kalu as Director of Operations, Mazi Ejiofor Ezeani as Director of Stakeholders Engagement, Nwaobi Victoria Oby as Director of Support Groups & Special Groups, Blessing Williams as Women Leader, Chukwudi Ogbunde as Youth Leader, Nneka Torti as Director of Media, Prince Udensi as SA Branding/Communication, Chigo Udensi as SA Strategy and Special Duties, and Okey Udenyi as SA Security and Mandate Protection.

LGA Coordinators unveiled are Hon. Uwakwe Okereke (DCC Rtd) for Arochukwu, Igwe Amos Onyekachi for Isuikwuato, Hon. Prince Okwara Ukwa Agwu for Ohafia, Hon. Chigozie K. Igbo for Umunneochi and Ikechukwu Eze for Bende.

In his closing remarks, Okoronkwo called on youths, women, professionals, farmers and community leaders to join the movement, promising to pursue legislation, lobby for federal projects and publish progress reports if elected.

“Abia North must move beyond the politics of personalities to the politics of performance. The time for excuses is over,” he said.
