CYON UMUAHIA DIOCESE HONOURS PRINCE MAYOR UKAEGBU AS PATRON ON 2026 YOUTH DAY
It was a day of faith, joy and solidarity as the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), Umuahia Diocese marked their 2026 Youth Day Celebration with the mantra “For God and For Youths”
The colourful event witnessed an outpouring of love and support for Prince Mayor Ukaegbu, the APC Candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency, as the youths unanimously recognised and installed him as the Patron of CYON, Umuahia Diocese for his numerous contributions to the work of God in the Catholic faith and humanity in general
In his opening remarks as Chairman of the occasion, Prince Mayor Ukaegbu, who was ably represented by Comrade Eugene Okonta JP, charged Catholic youths, especially those in Urban Ward 1, Urban Ward 2 and Urban Ward 3, to be critical of their choices in leadership and to be good ambassadors of the Catholic faith by ensuring they vote for credible leaders who have the fear of God
Comrade Okonta described Prince Mayor Ukaegbu as an astute Catholic from a strong Catholic background, noting that his elder brother is a Monsignor and his younger brother, a Catholic Reverend Father, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Ndukaku Ukaegbu. He said Mayor’s life of service is deeply rooted in his Catholic upbringing
In keeping with his agro-tech empowerment initiative, Prince Mayor Ukaegbu supported the piggery project of the youths and promised to continue partnering with CYON Umuahia Diocese in their future projects to ensure youth self-reliance
Highlights of the event were the award presentation to Prince Mayor Ukaegbu, his official installation as Patron of CYON Umuahia Diocese, and thrilling cultural displays by the youths
