THE IHECHIOWA QUESTION: WHY DELAZ’S AMBITION IS BUILT ON SAND
There is a fundamental truth in politics that no amount of ambition can override: a man who cannot win his own people has already lost the election.
Let us talk about Ihechiowa.
This is Delaz’s home. His birthplace. The soil that knows his name. And yet, standing firmly in that same soil are men whose political weight alone could bury any aspiration he carries into 2027.
Consider what he is up against at home alone:
Eze Linto — a First Class Traditional Ruler whose blessing is not just symbolic but decisive in mobilizing community sentiment. Traditional rulers do not just attend rallies; they shape them.
Chief Joe Ezearo — a former LGA Chairman who understands the machinery of local governance and has spent years building loyalty networks across the constituency.
Engr Chibuike Ezearu — the current LGA Chairman, who controls the present administrative architecture and the grassroots structures that translate into actual votes.
Chief Iketex and Hon. Emmanuel Awah seasoned political operators with established followings, not newcomers learning the terrain.
Every single one of these men from his own Ihechiowa is loyal to Labour Party.
Now ask yourself the question every serious voter must ask: If Delaz cannot negotiate, persuade, or win over the powerful men from his own community, men who know him up close, why should the rest of the constituency trust him from a distance?
Political capital begins at home. It is earned among people who have watched you grow, tested your character, and weighed your promises against your actions. When your own elders, your own chairman, your own traditional institution, and your own community leaders all stand on the other side that is not opposition. That is a verdict.
So where exactly does Delaz plan to find his votes?
If Ihechiowa his base, his foundation, his supposed stronghold is already fortified against him, then every vote he chases elsewhere is borrowed hope built on a cracked foundation.
A tree that cannot draw water from its own roots does not survive the dry season.
Delaz’s ambition is loud. But Ihechiowa is speaking louder and it is saying no.
