Labour Party Collapses into APC in Ukwa West.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia state recorded a major political gain on Saturday as a large number of members of the Labour Party in Ukwa West Local Government Area defected en-masse to the party, significantly strengthening its grassroots presence.
The decampees, drawn from various wards across the LGA, were formally received by the State Chairman of the APC, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, in Asa, he described the development as a clear indication of the growing acceptance and dominance of the APC in Abia State.
Addressing the new members, Hon. Chukwu assured them of equal rights and opportunities within the party, emphasizing that the APC remains a united platform where both old and new members are valued.
“There is no discrimination in APC. What we require from everyone is commitment, hard work, and dedication to the collective goal of winning elections, taking over the seat of power in the state and delivering good governance,” he stated.
The APC Chairman expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections, declaring that the APC is fully prepared to secure victory across the state.
He reiterated the party’s determination to take over the Government House in Umuahia, stressing that no obstacle would stand in the way of the party’s success.
Hon. Chukwu further charged the new entrants to integrate quickly into the party structure and work tirelessly at the grassroots level, particularly in their polling units, to ensure victory for the APC in Ukwa West and beyond.
He assured them of the party’s full support, noting that the APC leadership would provide the necessary resources and coordination required to achieve success in the coming elections.
The mass defection is widely seen as a death knell on the ruling labour Party and a significant boost to the APC’s political strength in Ukwa West, signaling a shifting political landscape in the Abia ahead of 2027 elections.
