Abia APC Endorses Chief Donatus Nwankpa as Consensus Candidate for National Welfare Officer, Reaffirms Suspension of Uche Ogah.
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), through its State Working Committee (SWC) and the 17 Local Government Area Chairmen, has unanimously endorsed Chief Donatus Nwankpa as the consensus candidate for the position of National Welfare Officer of the party ahead of the forthcoming National Convention.
The convention is scheduled to hold on Friday, 27th and Saturday, 28th March 2026 in Abuja.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting convened on Monday at the party’s State Secretariat in Umuahia, where party leaders deliberated extensively on preparations for the national convention and the need for a united front from Abia State.
At the end of the meeting, the party leadership unanimously resolved to adopt Chief Nwankpa as the consensus candidate, citing his long-standing commitment, loyalty, and contributions to the growth and stability of the APC in Abia State and beyond.
In the same meeting, the party also ratified the suspension of Dr. Uche Ogah over alleged anti-party activities.
Clarifying the party’s position, the State Legal Adviser, Barr. Vigilus Nwankwo, explained that Dr. Uche Ogah has remained under suspension since 2022 following actions previously deemed by the party as anti-party conduct.
Barr. Nwankwo further stated that any recent public statements credited to Dr. Ogah should not be interpreted as the position of a member of the APC, as he is currently not recognized as a member of the party due to the subsisting suspension.
According to him, “Since the suspension remains in force, it would amount to a needless exercise for the party to contemplate any additional disciplinary measures against him at this time, given that he is presently outside the fold of the party.”
The Abia APC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline, unity, and loyalty to the collective interest of the party, as it prepares to participate actively in the upcoming National Convention.
