The World Has Lost a Compassionate Leader, Senator Akobundu Mourns Pope Francis

The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Austin Akobundu has described the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday as shocking and a huge loss to the world.

Reacting to the news of the death of the Holy Father, Senator Austin Akobundu said he died at a time the world needed him most for his wisdom, and pro-people policies and pronouncements. He lamented that the world has lost a great leader who was not only a moral compass to a world struggling with moral uprightness but also one the world looked up to for spiritual guidance.

“Pope Francis was not only a Pope who was compassionate to the poor but openly associated with them, fiercely defending the oppressed and was also a voice for the voiceless.

“He will be sorely missed.

“Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen,” the Senator prayed.
