Vanguard Newspaper Awards: Senator Akobundu Congratulates Chief Onyema Ugochukwu (Pictures)
Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, FNGE, CON, was on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the prestigious Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Vanguard Newspapers for his contributions to the media profession. In nominating Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, an iconic journalist, erudite editor, astute administrator, economist and elderstatesman, the Management and Board of Editors of Vanguard Newspapers considered the “profundity of his immense relevance” to the media profession over the years.
In his congratulatory message to De Onyema, as he is fondly called by his admirers, the senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Austin Akobundu, who was also present at the awards ceremony in solidarity with the recipient, described the award as a befitting one for Chief Onyema Ugochukwu. He applauded Vanguard Newspapers for their choice of De Onyema for the Award, saying that his commitment to professional excellence, administrative acuity, and mentoring of the younger generations over the years remain historic.
Also present at the glamorous event to support her husband was Dr Joyce Onyema Ugochukwu.
