Asa Liberation Movement Writes NDDC Abia Commissioner Eruba,Gives 21-Day Ultimatum to Mobilise Contractors Back to Abandoned Asa Roads

*21-DAY ULTIMATUM FOR THE MOBILIZATION OF CONTRACTORS TO SITE ON ABANDONED NDDC ROAD PROJECTS IN ASA, UKWA WEST L.G.A., ABIA STATE*

Dear Sir,

Following extensive deliberations on the numerous road projects being flagged off and subsequently abandoned by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), at the General Meeting of the Asa Liberation Movement held on 8th September 2026, we write to express the deep concern, disappointment and growing frustration of the people of Asa over the continued abandonment of critical road projects in our communities.

Several of these projects were publicly flagged off over two years ago, yet, regrettably, they have not witnessed the meaningful mobilization of contractors to site.

Among the affected projects are the Owaza–Imo River Road, Uzuaku–Asa High School Junction Road, Umuorie–Umukalu Road, Umuebulungwu–Obohia Road, as well as other NDDC road projects across Asa that have remained largely unattended despite the expectations created by their flag-offs.

These roads are not merely projects on paper. They are critical infrastructure connecting communities, facilitating economic activities, improving access to schools and healthcare facilities, and opening up our rural communities for development. Their continued abandonment has subjected our people to severe hardship, particularly during the rainy season.

We therefore find it unacceptable that projects officially flagged off more than two years ago have remained without the necessary commitment and action required for their commencement and completion.

We respectfully remind you that the people of Asa deserve to enjoy the dividends of government intervention, particularly through an agency such as the NDDC, whose mandate is fundamentally connected to the development of communities within the Niger Delta region.

*OUR DEMANDS:*

Consequently, we hereby give the NDDC Abia State leadership TWENTY-ONE (21) DAYS from the date of receipt and/or publication of this letter to:

1. Mobilize the contractors handling the Owaza–Imo River Road, Uzuaku–Asa High School Junction Road, Umuorie–Umukalu Road, Umuebulungwu–Obohia Road, and other flagged-off NDDC road projects in Asa to site.

2. Provide the people of Asa with clear and realistic timelines for the commencement, execution and completion of the affected projects.

3. Ensure that the projects are executed according to approved specifications and required engineering standards, rather than contractors merely returning to site for symbolic or cosmetic activities.

4. Publicly communicate the status of the affected projects, including any administrative, contractual, funding or other challenges responsible for their delay or abandonment.

5. Ensure that all NDDC road projects in Asa Land are constructed with standard and functional drainage systems to prevent flooding of homes, compounds, farmlands and adjoining communities.

6. Ensure effective monitoring of the projects to guarantee value for money, quality workmanship and timely completion.

*OUR POSITION:*

We wish to make it clear that this ultimatum is borne out of our commitment to peaceful advocacy, accountability, responsible citizenship and the sustainable development of our communities. It is not intended to undermine the government, the NDDC or any individual.

However, if at the expiration of the 21-day period there is no visible and satisfactory action towards the mobilization of contractors to site, we will be compelled to explore all legitimate, peaceful and lawful avenues available to draw the attention of the relevant authorities and the general public to the continued neglect of these critical projects.

We believe that your office has both the influence and responsibility to ensure that these long-awaited projects receive the attention and urgency they deserve.

Asa people have waited long enough. We need action, not another flag-off.

We therefore urge you to treat this matter with the seriousness and urgency it demands and to use your good offices to ensure that contractors return to site within the stipulated period.

Our ultimate desire is not confrontation, but development, accountability and the completion of projects that will positively impact present and future generations of Asa people.

We look forward to a positive response and visible action within the stipulated period.
