Ukwa Frontiers Association Condemns Attack On Majority Leader and Clerk of Ukwa East Legislative Council, Demands For The Arrest And Prosecution of The Five Councillors

The Ukwa Frontiers Association has strongly condemned the malicious and unprovoked attack on the Majority Leader, Hon. Obinna Charles Ukaegbu, and the Clerk of the Ukwa East Legislative Council, Mr. Maxwell Ahukanna. The association described the attack as an attempted murder, irresponsible behavior, and an insult to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti.
The Ukwa Frontiers Association described the attack as a brazen attempt to undermine democracy and the rule of law in Abia State and demands as follows;
1.The immediate arrest and prosecution of the five councillors who masterminded the attack and attempted murder on the Majority Leader,Hon.Obinna Charles Ukaegbu and the Clerk/HPM,Mr.Maxwell Ahukanna.
2.The Immediate suspension of the five councillors namely;Hon. Emmanuel Ekeke, Ikwuorie Ward,Hon. Bright C.Ekeke, Azumini Ward ,Hon.Mark Godwin Amachi Ikwueke West Ward,Hon.Chukwuemeka Nwankor,Ikwuorieator East Ward and Hon. Iheanacho Nnadede,Obohia Ward from office for three months pending the outcome of the investigation and prosecution.
3.Ukwa Frontiers Association demands a thorough investigation to be conducted to unravel the circumstances leading to the attack and identify any other persons or groups involved.
4.Ukwa Frontiers Association demands adequate security measures to be put in place to protect the staff and officials of the Ukwa East Legislative Council from further attack.
5.The councillors involved in the attack should tender a public apology to the victims,the Mayor of Ukwa East, the Executive Governor, and the people of Ukwa East Local Government Area for bringing them to public ridicule..
6. The state government should take urgent steps to prevent external interference in the affairs of the council and ensure that elected officials are allowed to perform their duties without interference..
The Ukwa Frontiers Association is optimistic that the State Government through the Ministry of Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs would look into the demands made by the Association and bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book in no distant time..
