CHILDREN’S DAY: Mayor of Arochukwu Congratulates Arochukwu Children, admonished Parents To Pay More Attention To Children
As Nigerian Children joins their counterparts across the globe to mark this year’s children’s day celebration, the Mayor of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Engr. Dr. Chibuike Okereke Eze Aru has congratulated Arochukwu and Abia Children for witnessing this year’s celebration, he however called on parents to devote more greater time to their children.
According to the Arochukwu Council Boss, parents should devote greater time, and attention to their children, we must not leave the upbringing, caring and character formation of our children to the hands of teachers alone; we should take greater responsibility for the sake of their protection, wellbeing and the orderliness of society at large.
Creating the right enablements for our children to strive is our Collective Responsibility, he stated that his administration has placed a high premium on the total development and protection of children on which the continuous existence and progress of Arochukwu LGA, the State and nation depend.”
The Mayor maintained that his administration has taken various actions aimed at improving the welfare and security of our future generation, we do not intend to be giving them fish, we want to create an avenue where we will be teaching them on how to fish through the acquisition of skills with the aim of making them entrepreneurs and the results will soon start bearing fruits.
The Mayor of Arochukwu however decried the level of abuses against children “ranging from rape, defilement, sexual exploitation, cultism, child trafficking, child labour, to mention a few, stated that the situation has calls for more concerted efforts of all and sundry to take proactive measures and increase the consciousness of providing safe and very secure spaces for our children to grow up in the midst of genuine and selfless love, care and attention.
He on behalf of his wife, government and good people of Arochukwu LGA wished our children a happy celebration and prayed God to always bless and protect them.
Highlights of the event;
1. Distribution of school materials to children
2. Introduced a very competitive quiz competition with mouthwatering prizes
3. An enlarged chiodren party with full option entertainment
4. Monetary gifts and books to all the participants in the quiz competition
5. The quiz was in 3 sessions; English language, mathematics, and general paper, which covers basic science, current affairs, cultural values, etc
