On Tuesday, 1st April 2025, the attention of the executive Chairman Arochukwu LGA was notified about two children dumped by unknown person in a popular market in Arochukwu LGA. These children are two and four years in age. The Mayor who was so emotional on hearing the news immediately engaged the services of the police and other good people of the LGA who were around to start searching for whoever that dumped the innocent kids he while he made immediate provisions for the kids to be safe and fed. On the same day, it was found out that they were dumped by their mother who is not mentally sound. The woman was found naked showing signs of madness. The wife of the mayor arranged for clothes to cover her nude. The Mayor involved the traditional ruler, HRH Eze Amos Ngwuegbu Okoro, Eze Ibom isii, the Nigerian police and a personel of the DSS and the Honorable councilor, Hon. Ikechukwu Okorafor to Abia State welfare office in Ohafia since there is none in Arochukwu. Unfortunately, they were not accepted in Ohafia based on the unavailability of resources to accommodate people with such cases. The Mayor had to make additional arrangements for the kids to be taken back to Arochukwu, as he did not want to take chances in making sure they were safe. On the magnimousity of his royal highness, he accepted upon the request of the Mayor to accommodate the kids and their mentally ill mother until an alternative arrangement was made. The alternative arrangement was to involve the Ministry of woman affairs and social development, informing them about the mayor’s plans to repatriate the kids and their mum to Ebonyi state, where they said they come from. The Mayor made provisions for that and a team of four persons, including his royal highness, Eze Amos Ngwuegbu Okoro, a representative from the Nigerian police and two social welfare officers appointed by the Hon. Commissioner for women affairs and social development went to Ebonyi state with the kids and handed them over to the Ebonyi state commissioner of women affairs. God so kind, everything went well and the children with their mother are officially in their state, and with their government. The Mayor openly expressed his. boundless joy after the successful handover of the kids to their government, and said he is happy that he was able to represent the Governor in this capacity, knowing very well that he would not have been happy if any harm had happened to the kids and their mother. The Mayor alslo expressed his heart felt appreciation to the Honorable Commissioner of women affairs and social development of the state, who shows apathy by consistently calling on phone to check on the kids, as well as released her staff to join the Arochukwu team to Ebony state for the repatriation mission.
